Cindy Schultz is the Business & Technology Department Chair at Sentinel High School in Missoula, Montana. She teaches Graphic Design (Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign), Web Design (Dreamweaver & Flash) and Digital Film (Premiere Pro, Audition & After Effects), all in a paperless, blended/hybrid atmosphere using Moodle. She is an Adobe Education Leader and received the Adobe Education Leader Impact Award in 2014. She is also a Content Developer and Lead Web Design Instructor for the Montana Digital Academy and teaches professional development classes to students of the University of Montana and Missoula County Public Schools both face-to-face and online. She also serves as a Faculty Affiliate with the University of Montana teaching dual credit courses in the Media Arts Department: MART101L Introduction to Media Arts, MART102 Digital Technology in the Arts, MART111A Integrated Digital Art, and MART112 Intro to Film Editing.
Cindy is certified in Business Education, has a Master’s degree in Technology in Education and received her Administrative License from the University of Montana. She is a member of the district's Innovative Cadre and serves on many building and district technology committees. She also serves on the board of directors for the Montana Educator’s Credit Union and MCAT (Missoula Community Access Television).
She is a Flat Connections Certified Teacher and was involved in a cross-curricular, multi-age project called When Missoula was Young, Engaging Students in the Living History of their Community. In this place-based project, third graders and high school students (across multiple disciplines) deepen their understanding of local history through exciting and exploratory investigations that engage them in the learning process.
Cindy and her students started a program at their high school called the Sentinel Design Studio. The Sentinel Design Studio (SDS) is a student run organization that serves Missoula County Public Schools and the Missoula community with print, film and web services. The purpose of this group is dual faceted: to offer real-world, hands on training for Sentinel’s best and brightest in design, as well as offer their talents and skills to the community. Through the Sentinel Business Department, the SDS has been involved with school and community events alike. From posters for state-wide events, to web design for local nonprofits, the members of the SDS are receiving the sort of experience and training vitally needed in the rapidly expanding design market. These hand-picked, highly skilled students are dedicated to their fields, and are constantly pushing their own boundaries in independent study situations. This program is a unique example of 21st century education at its best; an environment where students work with instructors to build their own education and become productive members of their communities.
Last year students participated in a program called Spartan Live. Students will be learning about Aerial Video and Photography using a DJI Phantom 3. Students will also be live streaming many of the football, basketball, wrestling and volleyball sporting events with the support of MCAT, Missoula Community Access Television.
This year Sentinel Design Studio students have branched out into the sublimation business. Using the dye sublimation transfer process, the Sentinel Design studio can now print high quality digital images on a huge variety of items made from any material that is treated or coated or made of polyester. The imprinting is accomplished using a printer, special transfer inks and paper and a heat press. Check out some of the promotional products the Design Studio plans on producing: Sentinel Design Studio Promotional Products.
